Comparativos y superlativos

La regla y el truco

Adjetivos cortos (una sílaba, o dos acabadas en -y): comparativo con -er + than, superlativo con the + -est (fast → faster than → the fastest). Adjetivos largos: more + adjetivo + than, y the most + adjetivo. Irregulares: good → better → the best; bad → worse → the worst.

Truco

Cuenta las sílabas del adjetivo. Una o dos cortas → pégale la terminación (-er, -est). Tres o más → ponle la palabra antes (more, the most). Y nunca las dos cosas a la vez: more faster y the most fastest son error seguro.

Señales que lo delatan

  • «than» → COMPARATIVO («-er» o «more»)
  • «in the world», «of the year», «I have ever seen» → SUPERLATIVO («the -est» o «the most»)

Errores que casi todos cometen

  • · Duplicar la marca: more heavier, the most easiest.
  • · Comparativo sin than: My car is faster yours.
  • · Superlativo sin the: February is shortest month.
  • · Usar comparativo donde toca superlativo: Mercury is smaller planet in the solar system.
