There is / There are
La regla y el truco
Equivale al hay del español, pero en inglés sí cambia con el número: There is + singular o incontable, There are + plural. Negativa: There isn't, There aren't. Pregunta: Is there…?, Are there…?.
Truco
En español hay sirve para todo, y por eso se falla. En inglés mira el sustantivo que viene después: si es uno o incontable → There is; si son varios → There are. There is a TV, There are four chairs.
Señales que lo delatan
- el sustantivo va en plural → «There are»
- es incontable («water», «information») → «There is»
Errores que casi todos cometen
- ·
There is many books—bookses plural:There are many books. - ·
There are much information— incontable:There is a lot of information. - · Orden mal en la pregunta:
There is a mall?en vez deIs there a mall?.
